Puttur: Mortal remains of Dalit man left on roadside - One arrested

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (MS)

Puttur, Nov 19: A case under the Prevention of Atrocities against Dalits Act has been registered against three individuals for allegedly abandoning the mortal remains of Shivappa, a resident of Keremoole, on the roadside in front of his house. Shivappa, who worked as an assistant mason, was reportedly brought home in a pickup truck.

The case was filed based on a complaint by Shashi Keremoole, the son-in-law of the deceased.

On the morning of November 16, Henry Tauro, the owner of Tauro Wood Industries, had taken Shivappa for daily wage labour. Later, Shivappa was brought back in a pickup truck by Henry Tauro, Stany (a mason), and two others. His body was placed on wooden logs and left on the roadside near his house. When Shivappa's wife and daughter tried to speak to him, he was unresponsive. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The police have registered a case against Henry Tauro, Stany, and another individual under the Prevention of Atrocities against Dalits Act. One person has been arrested so far, following threats of protest by Dalit organizations if the suspects were not apprehended by Monday evening.
