Mumbai, Dec 13: The two-day inter-organizational cricket tournament held under the aegis of the youth wing of Karnataka Vishwakarma Association went under way at the Times of India ground in Kandivli (east) here on Saturday December 11.
Karnataka Vishwakarma Association president, Nitte Damodar Acharya, presided over the inaugural function. Jeweller and owner of Srinivasa Ornaments, Sridhar Acharya, who participated as chief guest, inaugurated the tournament. In his inaugural address, Acharya noted that cricket, which once upon a time used to be the game of rich persons, has become a game that makes people rich. Noting that more and more youth are getting attracted towards cricket, he expressed happiness at seeing Tulu-Kannadigas of Mumbai coming together on a single platform for the tournament.
Honorary guest, Dr K Mohan of Panchasheela Nursing Home, revealed that he has been playing cricket since his younger days, duly adding that he was happy at participating in tournaments being organized by young people.
Alevoor Yogeesh Acharya, president of Dakshina Kannada Vishwakarma Okkoota, extended his best wishes to all the players taking part in the tournament.
Working president of the youth wing, Nitin Acharya, conveners, Madhukar Acharya and Rajesh Acharya, were present at the dais.
First day of the flood-lit tournament witnessed participation by 14 teams. Mogaveera Yuvaka Vrinda, Buntara Sangha, Mogaveera Governing Council, Goregaon Karnataka Sangha, Devadiga Sangha A and B, Padmashali Seva Sangha, B S K B Association, Charkop Kannadigara Balaga, Tulu Kannada Sangha, Veerakesari Kalavrinda, Raghanbhumi Fine Arts, Bhandary Seva Samiti, and Karnataka Vishwakarma Association were among the teams which participated.
Ganesh Kumar introduced the guests. Secretary, Prasad Acharya, presented the programme.
