First BES Convention 2024: A step towards transformative education

Mangaluru, Nov 20: The Bethany Educational Society (BES), Mangalore Province, hosted the First BES Convention 2024 on November 20 at Sacred Hearts High School, Kulshekar. Centered on the theme Transformative Education for the Fullness of Life Towards Human Fraternity, the event emphasized holistic education and unity.

The program commenced with a graceful prayer dance by the students of Sacred Hearts High School, Kulshekar, followed by a warm welcome by Sr Mariyola BS, educational coordinator of Mangalore Province.

The keynote address was delivered by Sr Sandhya B S, secretary of BES, Mangaluru. Her speech inspired participants by emphasizing the transformative power of education in shaping a harmonious and inclusive society. She underscored the importance of fostering human fraternity and nurturing young minds to achieve personal excellence and social responsibility.

A key highlight of the convention was the session by Sr Dr Mariette B S, who spoke about the life and vision of the Servant of God Msgr Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas, the founder of BES. She elaborated on his dedication to providing education to the underprivileged, particularly rural girls, and his belief in education as a tool for excellence, self-reliance, and human transformation. She also reflected on his compassionate nature, focus on experiential learning, and emphasis on understanding the struggles of marginalized children.

Other sessions included:

  1. Core Values and Pedagogy – conducted by Sr Dr Mariette BS, focused on BES’s guiding principles.
  2. Promoting Peace and Harmony – led by Fr Stany Dsouza, emphasized fostering fraternity and constitutional values.
  3. Care for Mother Earth – presented by Sr Dr Lily Pereira BS, corporate manager and provincial superior, Mangalore Province, highlighted environmental sustainability through practical initiatives.

With 240 teacher participants, the convention was a platform for reflection and collaboration. It concluded with a vote of thanks by Lavita Jyothi, followed by the departure.

The convention celebrated BES’s commitment to holistic education that fosters personal growth, societal harmony, and environmental care, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
