Udupi, Nov 21: The lawyer representing Praveen Chowgule, the accused in the quadruple murder case that occurred a year ago at Nejar near Udupi, has withdrawn from representing him in court. As a result, the witness inquiry, which was scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, in the second additional district and sessions court, has been postponed to November 21.

The court had set dates on October 24 for witness 1 and 2 to appear for inquiry on November 20 and witness 3 and 4 on November 21. Accordingly, accused Praveen Chowgule was brought to Udupi court from Parappana Agrahara prison on Wednesday.

The accused was produced in court by CPI Manjunatha Gowda of Malpe police station. At this time, the lawyer for Chowgule informed the court that he was withdrawing from the case. Chowgule stated that his wife would hire a new lawyer.

Judge A Samiullah instructed the accused to appoint a lawyer immediately. Shivaprasad Alva, the special public prosecutor in the case, raised an objection to the withdrawal of the lawyer at the last moment.

The witness inquiry scheduled for Wednesday has now been postponed to Thursday. Chowgule was taken back to Hiriyadka prison under high security. Meanwhile, Chowgule also requested Judge Samiullah to provide lighting facilities at Parappana Agrahara prison, where he is currently lodged.
