Beltangady: Three nursing students on visit for Venur church feast drown in river

Beltangady, Nov 27: In a tragic incident, three youths who had gone swimming in a river after attending a program were swept away and drowned in the Barkaje dam area under the jurisdiction of Venur police station in Beltangady taluk.

The deceased have been identified as Lawrence Fernandes (20), son of Victor Fernandes from Edapadavu in Moodbidri taluk living in Kulavoor in Mangaluru taluk, Suraj C S (19). son of Sunil C S from Basavanagudi, Punjalkatte post, Kukkla village, Parenki in Beltangady taluk, and Joyson D'Souza (19), son of James D'Souza from Vagga, Kadabattu post, Bantwal taluk. All three were BSc Nursing students in a private college in Mangaluru.

The youths had visited the house of Walter, a resident of Moodukodi village in Beltangady, to attend Venur church feast. After lunch, they went to the Barkaje dam in Moodukodi village for a swim. Unfortunately, they were caught in the current and drowned.

Their bodies were retrieved from the water, and Venur police visited the spot to conduct an investigation.

It is reported that the students had come to the house of a friend in Nellikar, Nattikallu, before heading to the river for a swim.

    Its sad that all three student met the death.One when is not a not swimmer shouldnt get into water specially had some drinks(I dont say they had ).Better atleast one remains back till others comeout.In a place where guards are not there or no other persons.Hard for three families .Hope they will find reasons .Heartfelt sympathies to all family members.

    Rita Germany , These 3 boys nobody drinks . Lawrence was a good swimmer .He is Ex Aloysoius student There were 4 boys in that one Guy Lawerence saved when he went to save other 2 all three got drowned . The Dam was opened when these guys were in water so the force drowned them.
