Kundapur, Dec 13: “Regardless of language or subject, students should imbibe good values in the classroom, as these values will guide them throughout their lives. Education should build confidence and evoke patriotism, a responsibility only teachers can fulfill. We should be like a flowing river, not a stagnant Dead Sea,” said education expert Dr Gururaj Karjagi.
Dr Karjagi was speaking during the inauguration of the new building and development works at the government PU college, undertaken at a cost of Rs 3 crore.
He added, “The values of conscience, love, and affection are unique to India. Students may forget lessons but never the values imparted to them. While loving one’s mother tongue is important, hating other languages is unacceptable. Education reveals the goodness within a person. Teachers should treat students as their own children and contribute to raising the value of education.
“Students from rural areas have a strong hunger for education. If provided with the right environment, they can achieve great heights, even becoming prime ministers or presidents. Dr H S Shetty’s efforts in building this facility ensure his father’s legacy remains immortal.”
Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna presided over the programme, while MP Kota Srinivas Poojary inaugurated the Heggunje Rajeeva Shetty Karnataka Public School. Former MLA K Raghupati Bhat handed over the completed building to the authorities.
Dr H S Shetty, president of the Bengaluru Heggunje Rajeeva Shetty Charitable Trust, highlighted the trust’s contribution: “Founded 17 years ago, the trust has spent Rs 50 crore on societal welfare, especially in education. Although this building was completed a year ago at a cost of Rs 3 crore, the handover process faced delays. This is a government school, and the goal is to provide quality education with excellent facilities, without any ulterior motives.”
Deputy director of pre-university education in Udupi district Maruti, vice president of the Karnataka Public School Development Committee Arun Bhandary, and several other dignitaries, including donors and panchayat representatives, attended the event.
International education expert Dr Gururaj Karjagi and donor Dr H S Shetty were felicitated. Architect Yogishchandra and engineer Udaya Kumar Shetty, who contributed to the building’s construction, were also honoured.
K Ganapathi, deputy director of the school education department, Udupi, welcomed the gathering, while Karnataka Public School principal Ravindra Upadhyaya proposed the vote of thanks. Lecturer Arpita Prashant Shetty compered the event.
