Mangaluru: VHP, Bajrang Dal call for ban on New Year celebrations

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Dec 27: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (BD) have urged the police department to prohibit New Year celebration programs that they claim are aimed at misleading and harming the youth.

Sharan Pumpwell, the joint secretary of the VHP’s south province, highlighted concerns about the increasing activities of drug mafias in the coastal region. “For years, drugs have been supplied to parties, ruining the lives of many young boys and girls. Despite multiple reports to the district administration, police, and government, these activities persist. In Mangaluru, large-scale drug dealings, allegedly managed by a major racket, are active, with supplies reportedly arriving from Kerala and Goa. Such parties not only involve drug abuse but also attract youth from neighbouring states, leading to moral degradation and harm to local youth,” he stated. He further urged the city police commissioner to deny permissions for New Year parties in public spaces, which he claimed violate the law.

Punit Attavar, divisional coordinator of Bajrang Dal, announced plans to submit appeals to all police stations seeking a ban on such parties. “If no action is taken by the police, Bajrang Dal activists will intervene. The vision of a drugs-free Mangaluru should move beyond rhetoric to action,” he emphasized.

The groups also strongly opposed a programme by international DJ player Sajanka, scheduled for December 27 at City Beech in Bolar. They accused Sajanka of mocking Hindu mantras and shlokas and demanded that his event be cancelled.

Why Mangalore has not grown to its true potential is because of such fringe elements ---- Mangalore is not a preferred place to work -- Hence affects investments etc. etc. -- new companies who want to start business -- With great educational institutes this is a tragedy -- people have to find jobs outside the city -- stay away from near and dear ones -- all because of certain radical elements -- - MIND SET HAS TO CHANGE - -POLITICAL PARTIS FROM MAINSTREAM HAVE TO DISCUS WITH AN OPEN NMIND -- BE IT CONGRESS /BJP and other stake holders --

BD and VHP should first focus on cleaning the city/town from plastic waste littered around, educate people about traffic rules/lane disciplines, plant trees to increase the green cover, fight against corrupt municipality and city corporation to ensure the public funds are properly utilized in building infrastructures. BUT, HOW CAN THEY DO THESE WHEN THEY THEMSELVES ARE THE PART OF THESE PROBLEMS. THEY WANT TO CONVERT INDIA TO TALIBANistan OR NORTH KOREA.

The call for a ban on New Year celebrations by groups like the VHP and Bajrang Dal is deeply concerning. Such actions not only infringe upon the cultural freedom of individuals but also tarnish the image of Mangaluru as a hospitable and vibrant destination. Mangaluru, known for its beaches, cuisine, and unique cultural heritage, has immense potential as a tourism hub. Moves like this discourage tourists, both domestic and international, affecting local businesses and the livelihoods of countless people dependent on the tourism industry. Instead of imposing restrictions, efforts should focus on promoting harmony and showcasing the region’s rich traditions in a way that welcomes everyone. Tourism thrives in an environment of inclusivity, not divisiveness. This is not the Kudla we want .. They should try their stunts in the capital city of Bombay.(BJP state). not here ..

Why are the DK police heads so incompetent? Whom are they scared? Issue a stern warning to the communal group and make them keep their mouth shut. Where are those politicians who said we are going to ban the group? Is there any sections under the new BNS where you will be booked for giving threats to general public and police?

In a democratic nation no one can hinder peaceful new year thanksgiving and welcoming... Those doing drugs are not suppressing their adrenalin for new year parties to kick off... Attention seeking and creating ruckus is the only motive behind this nonsensical plan... I am sure police will not allow previous atrocities to repeat on peaceful revelers...

"Why are these so-called 'pumps and wells' targeting New Year parties for banning? Consuming and selling drugs is a crime throughout the year, so why single out a specific occasion? If these entities are genuinely concerned, they should focus on drug eradication year-round, not just to push their own agenda at certain times. Let the pumps and wells do their part in tackling the issue of drugs consistently, instead of using one event to make their point."
