Puttur, Jan 12: A special team of police arrested accused who stole valuables worth Rs 21 lacs of rupees from several houses in the district of Dakshina Kannada.
Sooraj K (36), native of Uppala Guddemane in the district of Kasargod, presently residing at Kasargod Manjeshwar Hosangadi Moodambailu Navilugiri, is the accused arrested by the police.
Golden ornaments worth lacs of rupees was stolen from the Godrej cupboard on December 20 in a house at Bhaktakodi under the limits of Survey village of Puttur police station when the family members were not at home. Similar acts of daylight robbery was reported from many places in Dakshina Kannada. Now, the accused is caught by police along with the car used in the act.
During interrogation of the accused police unearthed that Sooraj committed daylight robberies in Bhakta Kodi, Kalleri and Ira in Alangaru village, Kuntu Kudelu, Mankude, Kadumata of Kolnad village and Alakemajalu in Idkidu village.
The stolen items, with an estimated total value of Rs 21,00,000 (21 lac), include 200 grams of gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 18,00,000 (18 lac) and a Maruti Alto car valued at Rs 3,00,000 (3 lac), which was used in the crime. These were seized on January 10.
The special police team was guided by additional SP Rajendra D S and SP of DK Yathish. SP Yathish announced special prize for the police team involved in the operation.
