Fire in Kolkata Building, No Casualties

Kolkata, Jan 1 (IANS): Over a month after India saw its worst hospital fire tragedy that killed 93 people here, tense scenes were witnessed at the bustling Park Street area after a blaze broke out in a commercial building Sunday. No casualties were reported.

Smoke was seen billowing out of Apeejay House around 11.50 a.m. Six fire tenders reached the spot at around 12.20 p.m. Four more tenders were later pressed into service.

"It is a commercial building so there was no loss of life or any injury. The fire is completely under control," said Disaster Management Minister Javed Ahmed Khan.
