Mangaluru: Vendors resist relocation to designated trade zone near Town Hall

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jan 15: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has initiated steps to relocate street vendors to a newly constructed trade zone near Town Hall. However, the operation faced resistance from vendors who expressed dissatisfaction with the move.

As part of a city development plan, the trade zone was established to provide a permanent space for street vendors, including those selling fruits and vegetables along State Bank Road. Despite the availability of designated slots, many vendors have refrained from relocating to the trade zone, citing various issues.

In response, the MCC revenue department initiated an eviction drive to clear unauthorized street vendors from public spaces. During the operation, vendors voiced their anger against the officials, accusing the relocation plan of being unscientific and impractical.

The operation was temporarily halted as a group of vendors actively obstructed the drive, demanding that officials address their grievances before enforcing the relocation.
