Moodbidri: 'Alva's Virasat' National Award for Musician Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty

Moodbidri, Jan 2: Indian classical musician Padmashree Pandit Ajoy  Chakrabarty from Kolkata has been chosen for the National Award during the 20th ‘Alva’s Virasat’ national cultural extravaganza, that will be held under the aegis of Alva’s Education Foundation in Shobhavana, Mijar, from Thursday January 5 to Sunday January 8.

“The Award will be conferred on Pandit Chakrabarty on Thursday in the presence of chief minister (CM) D V Sadanand Gowda,” said Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation.

He has bagged several honours including the Padmashree, Kumara Gandharva Award, and Sangeet Natak Academy Award. The Alva’s Virasat National Award will be the latest addition to Ajoy’s music career.

Alva’s Virasat National Award comprises cash, memento, a citation letter, and traditional felicitation.

The preparations are almost complete for the 20th Alva’s Virasat. The street leading to the mega stage at Shobhavana has been decorated with traditional lamps and lamp poles have been erected on either side of the auditorium. The entire venue is fully illuminated and beckons visitors.
Inaugural Procession:

A grand procession will be held on Thursday at 5.45 pm and the CM will inaugurate the programme at 6.00 pm.

Nitte Education Trust chairman Dr N Vinay Hegde, A J Group managing director A J Shetty, entrepreneur Sasikiran Shetty, MLA K Abayachandra Jain, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnic, state former minister K Amaranat Shetty, Canara Bank deputy general manager Dasayya, Karnataka Bank CEO P Jayaram Bhat, Nadoja Dr G Shankar, Gold Finch Hotels managing director K Prakash Shetty, entrepreneur N Balakrishna, and K L N Engineering Private Limited president Prasanna Kumar Shetty will be chief guests on the occasion.

The conferring of Alva’s Virasat national award will be held on the same occasion.
Vidwan Ganesh–Kumaresh brothers of Chennai will stage a violin musical concert on Thursday from 7.15 pm to 8.45 pm.

Shiva Fusion Group of Chennai will stage ‘Shiva The Musical Thunder’ on Friday January 6 from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm followed by Ram Lee Ibrahim Musical Group from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, who will stage ‘Spellbound Odissi’ group dance.

Grammy Award recipient Pandit Vishwamohan Bhat, Mohan Veena, Suramani Pandit Praveen Godkindi, Suben Chatarjee, Sumit Ramachandran, and Sanbit Chatarjee will stage a jazz show on Saturday January 7, followed by the Kathak dance show by Mangaldas troupe.

Mahesh Vinayak Ram and group from Chennai will stage a special fusion musical concert on Sunday January 8, followed by Raghu Dixit and M D Pallavi group with a musical concert from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

‘India’s Got Talent’ finalist mega magic star Kudroli Ganesh will stage shows on all evenings including various dances by the students of Alva’s education institutions.
