Bengaluru, Jan 19: Bengaluru woke up to an unexpected spell of rain on Sunday, January 19, in the morning, catching many residents off guard.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more showers, not just in the city but across southern interior Karnataka and the Malnad regions.

The Karnataka Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC) issued a rain alert, predicting "scattered moderate rain" in the southern and coastal districts, along with heavy fog throughout the state. Areas like MG Road, Jayanagar, Hebbal, and RR Nagar saw light rain, adding to the chill in the air.

The IMD links the unseasonal rain to a cyclone brewing off the eastern coast of Sri Lanka and the southwest Bay of Bengal. This weather system is causing temperatures to drop, bringing rain and cool weather to many parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru.

The city can expect light rain for the next 48 hours, with temperatures dipping to a chilly 27°C during the day and 17°C at night on Sunday. By Monday, it could get even cooler, with temperatures expected to fall to 26°C and 16°C.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a severe cold alert for Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Raichur districts, urging residents to prepare for colder conditions in the coming days.
