Mangalore: National Youth Festival Preparations in Full Swing

Mangalore, Jan 3: Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat chief executive officer and chief of the media committee of 17th National Youth Festival being held in the city from January 12 to 16, Dr K N Vijay Prakash, informed the media persons on Monday January 2 that preparations are progressing at full speed for the festival.

As many as 835 persons from 28 states, five union territories, and five SAARC nations, apart from over 5,000 youth delegates will take part in the festival. Competitive cultural programmes, folklore, classical dances, one-act dramas, stunts, etc will be hosted at different venues. All these events will be backed by the motto, ‘unity in diversity’, he added.

While food festival will be held in Karavali Utsav ground, ground sports will be conducted at Nehru Maidan. Water sports events will be held at Panambur beach, while Kadri Park will be the venue for the ‘Yuva Kala Sangama’ programme, he revealed.

The festival will be inaugurated by Karnataka Governor, Hansraj Bhardwaj, on January 12 at Mangala Stadium. Reception committee and various sub committees formed for the purpose have been functioning in an organized manner for the success of the festival, he revealed.

Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), Dr N S Channappa Gowda, informed that the state government has already released five crore rupees for the festival, while the centre is expected to release two crore rupees. He revealed that the task of laying synthetic track at Mangala Stadium will begin on January 17.

Every evening from January 13 to 16, cultural programmes will be presented by renowned artistes. Hariharan and his team will perform on January 13, while Euphoria team will perform on Janury 14. Shivmani, Kadri Gopalnath, Pravin Godkhindi, and Narasimhalu Vadavatti will come together at the stage on January 15. Special evening by Vasudhara Das will be presented on January 16.

The DC requested the people of the district and organizations to extend full cooperation for the festival. Additional DC, Dayananda, and Mangalore Urban Development Authority commissioner, Shanadi Ajit Kumar Hegde, were present.
