Prayagraj, Jan 23: Monalisa Bhonsle, a 16-year-old garland seller whose striking amber eyes captured the internet’s attention during the Maha Kumbh Mela, has alleged harassment and disruption to her livelihood following her sudden rise to fame.

Monalisa gained popularity after a viral video shot by a social media influencer showcased her unique eyes, earning her the title ‘Amber-Eyed Beauty.’ However, the newfound attention has brought with it unwelcome challenges. Large crowds and influencers have swarmed her stall, leaving her struggling to carry out her work.

In a recent video, Monalisa described an incident where a group of men entered her tent under false pretences, claiming her father had sent them to take pictures with her. “I refused and told them to go to my father if he had sent them. I wouldn’t click pictures with them,” she shared. When her brother tried to delete the photos from their phones, the men allegedly attacked him. “Nine men beat him up,” she said, adding, “I am scared. There’s no electricity here, and anyone could harm me.” Her father later confronted the men, denying any involvement.

Monalisa’s grandfather expressed concerns over her inability to work due to the constant attention. “She is very upset in Prayagraj. People keep following her, clicking pictures, and talking, leaving her unable to sell garlands,” he said.

Conflicting reports about her current location have surfaced. While some sources suggest Monalisa has returned to her home in Indore due to safety concerns, her grandfather has refuted these claims, stating she remains in Prayagraj. Videos showing her covering her face with a scarf as crowds jostle around her stall have fuelled concerns about her well-being.

Monalisa’s story highlights the darker side of viral fame, where admiration turns into harassment, jeopardizing her safety and livelihood. As confusion about her whereabouts continues, her experience serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting personal boundaries, even in the age of social media stardom.
