Kundapur: Kalikamba Temple Burgled on Wednesday Night

Kundapur, Jan 6: Unknown thieves, who entered Goddess Kalikamba Temple in Upralli, Ulloor village in the taluk on Wednesday night, succeeded in laying their hands on gold and silver ornaments, totally valued at Rs 4.5 lac. The theft came to light when priests of the temple, Ganesh and Mahesh, reached the temple on Thursday morning for puja.

The thieves entered the temple by breaking the front door and the door of the sanctum sanctorum. They took away seven kilograms of silver valuables and gold ornaments. Ornaments, both silver and gold, found on the idols of Kalikamba, Vishwakarma, and Nagalinga Swamy, were stolen.

A platter and two locks of the temple were found abandoned in a drain some distance away from the temple. Assistant superintendent of police, Ram Niwas Sepat, and circle inspector, Arun B Nayak, along with Byndoor station house officer, Pavitra Teja, visited the spot and made enquiries.

On the basis of a complaint filed by temple managing trustee, Trasi Sudhakar Acharya, a case was registered in Byndoor police station.
