Mumbai, Jan 30: Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor has sparked excitement among fans by teasing a connection between his upcoming action thriller Deva and the 1975 classic Deewaar. Kapoor, who plays a brilliant yet rebellious police officer, suggested that Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic character Vijay from Deewaar has a certain “relevance” in the film.

Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, Deva features Pooja Hegde and Pavail Gulati in pivotal roles. The teaser poster, which was unveiled earlier this year, shows Shahid Kapoor smoking a cigarette in front of a mural of Amitabh Bachchan’s legendary character Vijay Verma, the fearless dockworker from Deewaar.

When asked about this visual reference, Shahid said, “This question should be for Rosshan because he was the one who chose that visual. But there is definitely a relevance of Bachchan’s Deewaar character within the film.”

Celebrating its 50th anniversary on January 21, Deewaar remains one of the greatest Hindi films of all time. Shahid, who grew up idolising Amitabh Bachchan, expressed his admiration for the legendary actor, saying, “We have all grown up watching Amit ji, we have idolised him as a star. The film had a strong story, great interpersonal dynamics, powerful dialogues, and stellar performances. It is a cherished memory for all of us.”

With Deva set to bring intense action and gripping drama to the big screen, fans eagerly await to see how the film pays homage to the timeless legacy of Deewaar.
