Mangaluru, Feb 10: The issue of waste disposal and littering in Dattanagar has been a growing nuisance for several months. Despite the installation of warning banners at multiple locations, the public remains largely indifferent, continuing to discard garbage along the roadside.

In an attempt to tackle this persistent problem, the Dattanagar Nivasigala Sangha has put up a thought-provoking banner in Kannada that reads, “Being educated, if you dump waste and, in the end, uneducated workers clean it, then what is the meaning of education?” The message underscores the importance of personal responsibility and questions the value of education if people fail to follow basic civic duties like proper waste disposal.

Alongside this banner, another sign featuring the Kannada alphabet has been installed to raise awareness about the consequences of littering. Additionally, a CCTV camera has been strategically placed along the road to monitor and deter offenders from dumping waste.

However, despite these efforts, the situation remains dire. The drain at Dattanagar 3rd Cross, which connects to Yeyyadi, continues to be a major dumping ground. Frequent clogging due to garbage disposal has worsened pollution, further degrading the local environment. The reckless actions of a few individuals continue to pose significant challenges for waste management authorities, threatening the cleanliness and well-being of the community.
