Puttur, Feb 13: After being away from home for 45 years, Ramachandra, a resident of Derla in Puttur taluk, has finally reunited with his family, thanks to social media.

The 66-year-old Ramachandra was found in a destitute condition near the Tiptur bus stand and was admitted to the Aasare old age home. His story was shared on social media, where a live video showed him mentioning that he was from Puttur and recalling places such as Bolikkal, Madaavu, and Derla. This caught the attention of his brothers, who were able to recognize him.

Following this, his elder brother, retired naval officer Divakar Rai, visited the old age home to inquire about him. After discussing with family members, they decided to bring Ramachandra back home. Necessary documents were prepared to establish his identity, and the Puttur police station coordinated with the Tiptur police to verify the records. On February 12, Divakar, along with relatives, visited the old age home, where Ramachandra recognized them and even recalled their names. After completing formalities, he was taken back home.

Ramachandra was one of the nine children of Derla Ramanna Rai and Parameshwari. Having left home for work, he eventually lost contact with his family. It is believed that he had moved to Mumbai. Remaining unmarried, he was later found in a condition where he could no longer walk, leading to his admission to the old age home.

At a time when the trend of abandoning elderly family members is increasing, Ramachandra's brothers have been praised for their care and love in bringing him back home through social media efforts. "Ramachandra is our own brother. It is our duty to bring him home," said Divakar, expressing his commitment to family values.
