Udupi, Feb 14: Gurukula Public School celebrates grandparents meaningfully as every year on February 14.
Dr Rekha V Bannadi, retired lecturer and writer from Kundapura, was the chief guest of the event. She emphasised that to build a healthy society, family structure is essential. "However, today, families have lost their compassion, and children no longer receive the values, moral stories, and life lessons they need. As everyone gets lost in the allure of independent living, they are distancing themselves from the elderly, which in turn distances the children from the love and care they should receive," she said.

"Just like in school exams, where one must follow certain steps like writing, identifying right/wrong, and filling in the blanks, life’s exams also require such adjustments, and adaptation becomes crucial," she said.
Through various examples, Dr Rekha meaningfully conveyed that parents should spend more time with their children, especially telling them stories in their early years. When children are guided correctly, they will not deviate from the right path in life.
She further emphasised that the role of parents in nurturing children is far more significant than that of school teachers, and if parents understand this, there’s no need for anything else to build a better society. She advised everyone to ensure that their children receive as much love as possible from the elders.
The event was presided over by Anupama S Shetty, the joint director of Bandya Educational Trust. She spoke about the importance of such celebrations for the survival of our Sanatana Dharma. She mentioned that she follows the customs and practices that were passed down from her grandmother, some of which are 200 years old. She stressed that it is crucial to pass on such values and traditions to the children, and everyone must work together to ensure they understand their significance.
On the occasion children performed dances and speeches for the entertainment of their grandparents. A special attraction of the event was the swing ride for elderly parents, where children, along with their parents and grandparents, sat together to take photographs and enjoyed the moment. In the end, certificates were distributed to all the senior parents, who participated in the event.
The school principal, Sunil Patrick welcomed the gathering. Coordinator Vishala Shetty, delivered the vote of thanks and compered the event.
Teachers, senior parents, parents, guardians, students, and non-teaching staff were present during the event.
