Mangaluru, Feb 15: The saplings planted along road dividers by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) for beautification have dried up due to a lack of proper maintenance. Originally intended to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal, these plants have been deprived of essential care, such as watering and pruning. As a result, many once-vibrant green spaces have turned brown and wilted, diminishing the beauty they were meant to add to the city's roads and public spaces.
In areas such as Kadri Park, Ladyhill, Mannagudda, Clock Tower, and Hampankatta, plants have completely dried up due to the absence of regular watering. The same issue extends to the plants and grasses in Mangaluru's traffic circles.

Additionally, some plants have overgrown, posing a distraction to two-wheeler riders and creating potential hazards. While various authorities and organizations have taken the initiative to plant saplings along road dividers to promote greenery, their maintenance has been neglected, leaving them to wither.
The MCC must address this issue by ensuring timely watering and proper pruning of the plants to maintain the city's green cover.
