Mangaluru, Feb 15: The state-level Blind Cricket Tournament in Mangaluru witnessed an exciting display of sportsmanship, with three skilled teams competing fiercely for the Lions Valencia Cup 2025.
The event, held on Saturday, February 15, at Karavali Utsava Ground, Ladyhill, was organized by the Lions Club Valencia (District 317D, Region 2, Zone 2). The tournament brought together players who showcased remarkable skill and determination, overcoming challenges to display their passion for the game. The competition highlighted the growing popularity and inclusivity of blind cricket, fostering unity and inspiring players to push their limits in sports.

The tournament was inaugurated by Dr Shantharam Shetty, chairman of Tejaswini Hospital, and presided over by Lions Club Valencia president Leslie D'Souza, along with MLC Ivan D'Souza.
Teams from Bengaluru, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga participated in the tournament. The format included eight-over matches, with each team comprising four players from the B1 category (totally blind), three from the B3 category (partially blind), and three from the B2 category (significantly limited vision). The participants, all high school students, have been practicing for a month, traveling across the state to compete in similar tournaments.
As per the tournament rules, when a B1 category player scores a single run, it is counted as two runs. Similarly, if they hit a four or a six, it is recorded as eight and twelve runs, respectively.
The winning team will receive a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25,000, while the runners-up will be awarded a trophy and Rs 20,000. The prize money will support the players’ travel, food, cricket kits, and other expenses.
Secretary Ln Oswald D'Cunha, treasurer Ln Cyril Jiwan, and PRO Ln Navin Chandra Suvarna were also present at the event.
