Karkala: Mobile phone explodes while charging; house gutted in fire

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala

Karkala, Feb 16: A mobile phone explosion while charging led to a massive fire, gutting an entire house and causing losses worth several lakhs of rupees at Kishore Kumar Shetty’s residence in Marathappa Shetty Colony, 11th Cross, Tellaru Road, on Saturday early morning.

The incident occurred around 4 am in the two-storey house with six rooms.

The mobile phone, which was kept on a sofa, exploded and immediately caught fire, engulfing the entire house. Fire brigade personnel arrived promptly after being alerted and battled the flames for over two and a half hours to bring the fire under control. It is suspected that the air conditioner, which was switched on at the time, contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

House owner Kishore Kumar Shetty sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Station officer Alpert Monis, local leader Hariprasad Shettigar, driver Jaya Moolya, and Ravichandra were involved in the firefighting operation.

It. is an unfortunate incident mobile phone battery burst. Yes, here we can't blame only the mobile, battery and chain/ cheap mobiles. No one is interested to look at the mobile charger unit. Day by day, chargers are becoming slim and weightless due to usage of semiconductors to step down 220 V AC to 5 V DC. Earlier transformers were used and had good resistance to AC voltage hike/fluctuations. But semi conductors cant take the load of AC voltage hike/fluctuations. Hence 99% chances of inducing AC 220 Volt directly to the mobile phone and battery, which no doubt will explode as the 100 time more AC voltage is forced. We always buy expensive mobile, but for charger, we go for the cheapest. Now a days, branded mobile company, do not sell the charger. So we go the cheap charger and all explosion theory will occur. Transformer type charger is 99% danger free as there is physical isolation from Mains 220 V AC to 5 Volt DC. ( Voltage induced by magnetic induction) . So think before buying cheap mobile chargers.

OK, we learn that mobile phone exploded. And that is all. We do not know, which phone not to buy. And those that survived, please book Mahindra's latest offering. Surprise, the batteries that power those babies are also very similar to the ones that exploded and no, it is not made it India just like the battery that laid the whole house waste. 95% of batteries are made in Chinkiland.

Very sad .first mistake may be keeping the mobile on a sofa which gets heated during the process and since cotton or clothes get the heat soon turn into fire.Better on a plain wooden stool or on floor without covering.Dont neglect it .Even a stone would do.Nowadays batteries too are mostly from china heat fast and explode easily.Hope the insurance will cooperate (If any )

Do not keep the mobile phones on the clothes or pillow/bed during the charging. There is no way for air circulation and high chance of fire.
