KCWA Cricket Cup 2025: A thrilling tournament celebrating sportsmanship and community spirit

Kuwait, Feb 16: Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) held “KCWA Cricket Cup 2025” on Friday, February 14 at DCC Grounds, Sulaibiya – Kuwait.

The tournament began by invoking the Lord’s blessings led by Roshan Rodrigues followed by a message from president Naveen Mascarenhas welcoming the teams, sponsors & guests gathered and requested their wholehearted participation in the tournament. President together with the management committee members played a few deliveries and declared the tournament open. Prakash Gonsalves led the opening ceremony.

The tournament was held in 3 categories with 4 teams in men’s regulars, 4 teams in men’s veterans and 4 teams in women’s regulars. a total of 12 teams participated in the tournament. The event was held exclusively for KCWA members and their families. Over 250 members witnessed this event.

Below were the registered teams and the results in their respective categories:

Red Sparks defeated Daredevils to lift the winner’s trophy.

This year, KCWA also awarded a trophy and medal to hero of the match, impact player of the match in every league match as also the best bowler, best batter, player of the final, best captain and fair play award for the best performer in final match.

The following players were recognised in 3 categories for their performances in the entire tournament:

Men’s regulars:

Best batter – Wilson lobo (KMCC)

Best bowler – Friston Correa (KMCC)

Player of the finals – Melwin D’Souza (KMCC)

Best captain – Errel Jason D’Souza (KMCC)

Fair play award – Joel Pinto (Canara XI)

Men’s Veterans:

Best batter – Roshan Lawrence Menezes (Salmiya KICC)

Best bowler – Roshan Lawrence Menezes (Salmiya KICC)

Player of the finals – Roshan Lawrence Menezes (Salmiya KICC)

Best captain – Alfred Lobo (Salmiya KICC)

Fair play award – Lancy Castelino (Team Xtreme)

Regular women:

Best batter – Glenda Rekela Menezes (Daredevils)

Best bowler – Glenda Rekela Menezes (Daredevils)

Player of the finals – Valentine Preema Dsouza (Red Sparks)

Best captain – Nancy Pinto (Canara XI)

Fair play award – Vinitha D’Souza (Infinity)

DCC management led by Riston Robin Cardoza were the match officials and scoring official for the tournament.

Jayson D’Souza led the final presentation ceremony followed by a vote of thanks proposed by sports secretory Prakash Pinto.

KCWA honoured Angel D Costa, medium pacer all-rounder cricketer for being a part of senior women Kuwait cricket for ICC Asia qualifier World Cup. She was selected for U19 - BCCI Goa state Team as opener bowler allrounder and player of the match against Hyderabad for amazing spell. Currently invited for U23 high performance camp in Goa state BCCI and won bronze medal for state level in Goa for age 18 to 20 category. Her achievements have instilled a sense of pride within the Mangalorean community. She is a daughter of KCWA member Lavina D’Souza (Membership#2639).

The event concluded with the closing prayer led by Johnson D’Almeida, thanking the Almighty for the pleasant weather and the successful conclusion of the "KCWA Cricket Cup 2025."

KCWA has wholeheartedly thanked the sponsors of the Steel United Factory – Prakash Gonsalves, Dalian International for Fire and Safety – Prashanth Ferrao, Allan Joseph Pinto & Family, Prakash Pinto & Family, Prashanth Loyd D’Souza, Reyan Lobo and Family. KCWA also extends their gratefulness to the DCC Management for providing the grounds and managing the whole event for the entire day.

Alban D’Souza & Prashanth Ferrao captured the moments for the day along with Allan D’Souza who provided everyone with the updates in social media. The Sounds system was provided by Roshan Rodrigues. KCWA has also thanked Mughal Tandoori Restaurant, Abbasiya for arranging the breakfast and lunch for the event. Special thanks to Prajwal Jaison Ferrao and Joseph Mascarenhas for the logistics support.

The tournament was well-coordinated by sports secretary Prakash Pinto along with Jayson D’souza, with the support of the sports committee and managing committee members.
