Trudeau celebrates Canada’s Hockey win with subtle dig at Trump

Ottawa, Feb 22: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to social media to celebrate Canada’s thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over the USA in the 4 Nations face-off hockey final in Boston.

"You can’t take our country and you can’t take our game," Trudeau posted on X, a statement widely interpreted as a jab at former US President Donald Trump.

Trump recently suggested that Canada would be ‘better off as the 51st state’ and has fueled tensions with ongoing tariff disputes. His remarks have also led to ‘The star-spangled banner’ being booed in Canadian arenas, including during the tournament’s game in Montreal. US fans reciprocated by booing ‘O Canada’ in Boston, though the anthem was respected during the final.

While Trump was not in attendance for the final, he did call the US team in their locker room after practice earlier in the day. However, the night belonged to Canada, with Connor McDavid securing the championship in dramatic fashion.
