Champions trophy showdown: India-Pakistan rivalry set to ignite on Sunday

New Delhi, Feb 23: Excitement is at an all-time high as arch-rivals India and Pakistan gear up for a thrilling Group A clash in the Champions Trophy on Sunday. Former Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad, previewing the much-anticipated encounter on his YouTube channel, admitted that India is the stronger side but warned that Pakistan could pose a serious challenge if their bowlers strike early.

Shehzad emphasized the importance of India’s top four – Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer – playing deep into the innings. “If Pakistan can land the first blow and dismiss three Indian batters within 15 overs, bringing the all-rounders into play early, it will be a massive advantage,” he said.

India’s middle order, comprising all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja, adds depth, but Shehzad cautioned that in ODIs, teams need specialized batters to anchor the innings. “This strategy works in T20s, but in 50-over cricket, game awareness and the ability to build an innings are crucial,” he added.

Shehzad also predicted a standout performance from Virat Kohli, saying, “He has a habit of delivering magical innings in big matches. Remember how he snatched victory from Pakistan’s jaws last time?” Kohli, fresh off a composed 52-run knock against England, could be the key for India.

Pakistan, having lost to New Zealand in their opening game, are in a must-win situation, while India enters the contest with momentum following a commanding six-wicket victory over Bangladesh. With a semifinal spot at stake, the stage is set for another classic India-Pakistan showdown.
