Mumbai, Feb 24: India handed Pakistan a humiliating 6-wicket defeat in the Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday, February 23, leaving the hosts on the brink of an early exit after two back-to-back losses.
Batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan collapsed despite a solid start, managing only 241 runs as Kuldeep Yadav (3 wickets) and Hardik Pandya (2 wickets) dismantled their lineup.
India’s chase was effortless, with Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill setting the tone before Shreyas Iyer chipped in to keep the momentum going. Kohli sealed the win with his 51st ODI century, ensuring India’s dominance.
Following the loss, Pakistan faced heavy trolling on social media, with experts highlighting the growing gulf between the two teams.
Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar remarked, “Every time we play Pakistan these days, we are reminded of the growth of Indian cricket and the decline of Pakistan cricket. The longer the format, the wider the gulf.”
Irfan Pathan echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Banters aside, in ODI cricket, India is way ahead of Pakistan in terms of skill, fitness, and ability to handle pressure. Well done, Team India.”
With this loss, Pakistan’s chances of making the next round look bleak, though they will have one last shot in their final group game against Bangladesh on February 27.
