Trump’s ‘Gold Card’ offers citizenship for $5 million, to go on sale soon

Washington, Feb 27: President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced the introduction of a ‘Gold Card’ that will provide a direct pathway to US citizenship for those who purchase it. Tentatively priced at $5 million, the cards are expected to be available for sale in two weeks.

The initiative is designed to help American companies retain top talent graduating from US universities, particularly from India, China, and Japan. It will also serve as an entry route for wealthy foreign investors, with the expectation that many will establish businesses and generate employment.

“It’s sort of a Green Card Plus, and it's a path to citizenship,” President Trump stated during his cabinet meeting. “We're going to call it the Gold Card, and I think it's going to be very treasured. I think it's going to do very well. And we’re going to start selling, hopefully in about two weeks now.”

Currently, the US offers the EB-5 visa program, allowing foreign nationals to secure a Green Card by investing approximately $1 million in the country. However, the Trump administration has criticized the program’s inefficiencies and is pushing the Gold Card as a superior alternative.

“I get calls from companies that want to hire the top student from a school,” Trump said. “People come from India, China, Japan, and many other places. They attend prestigious institutions like Harvard, Yale, and the Wharton School of Finance, graduate at the top of their class, and then face uncertainty about staying in the country. With the Gold Card, companies can purchase it for recruitment purposes, ensuring these talented individuals remain in the US.”

Beyond talent retention, the President also views the Gold Card as a tool to generate revenue to help reduce the national debt.
