Washington, Feb 27: African-American singer and actress Mary Millben has described former US President Donald Trump as "kind," recounting an incident at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last week where he delayed his speech to allow her to perform.

Millben shared that while she was preparing to sing before Trump at CPAC, she was informed that her act was being cut as he had arrived earlier than expected and was set to take the stage immediately. Accepting the decision, she was ready to take her seat when Trump, who overheard the conversation, intervened and insisted to CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp that she must be allowed to perform before he began his speech.

Taking to social media platform X, Millben expressed gratitude for Trump's gesture, emphasizing his "soft power" and support for her career.

"One word that comes to mind when people ask me about President @realDonaldTrump – kind," she wrote. "As I was preparing backstage to perform at @CPAC last week, the President arrived earlier than scheduled. The backstage team, certainly doing their job well, informed me that my performance was being cut to accommodate his early arrival."

She added, "Having sung for five consecutive US Presidents, I have learned to be flexible and always serve at the pleasure of the President. So I was prepared to step aside. However, President Trump, who overheard the discussion, stopped everyone and clarified his wish—I was to sing before he spoke. It was a humbling and emotional moment for me."

Millben called this act a reflection of Trump’s kindness and unwavering support.

Millben further credited both Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump for championing her career.

"I will never forget the kindness of the President, his ‘soft’ power, and the way he reminded everyone backstage who was in charge. @POTUS and @FLOTUS have stood by my career for years, supported me publicly and privately, given me opportunities, and welcomed me into their home," she said.

She affirmed her personal experience with Trump, stating, "No matter what you read or hear, I will be your evidence of this truth: The President is truly kind."

Trump delivered his CPAC address on February 23, discussing his deportation policies and other key issues.

Earlier in November, Millben had publicly expressed her support for Trump in his contest against Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking to ANI from Palm Beach, Florida, where she was set to join a gathering of Trump supporters, she voiced her hope for his victory.

"I certainly want to see the President victorious tonight and serving again as our 47th President," she had said, while also emphasizing that her work remains independent of political leadership.
