Bengaluru, Feb 28: Bengaluru witnessed a tragic accident on Friday when an auto-rickshaw was crushed between two BMTC buses at Sita Circle near Hosakerehalli Cross, killing both occupants.

The deceased were identified as 50-year-old auto driver Vijay Kumar and 70-year-old passenger Vishnu Bhatia. Police stated that the accident occurred when a BMTC bus driver abruptly braked, causing the auto to crash into the bus ahead. A second BMTC bus from behind then collided with the auto, completely crushing it.

Both victims died on the spot. Authorities have seized the buses and detained the drivers for investigation. The accident led to a traffic jam lasting over an hour.

According to official statistics, Bengaluru recorded 4,784 road accidents in 2024, with 893 fatalities. Police claim a 3.9% decline in accidents compared to 2023, attributing it to proactive measures.

Other recent accidents in the city include the death of a 12-year-old Andhra Pradesh boy on his birthday in January and a tragic October 2023 incident where a mother and infant daughter were burned alive in a car crash on NICE Road.

Banashankari Traffic Police are investigating the latest incident.
