Trump clarifies Musk’s Role in government, says he has no firing power

Washington, Mar 10: US President Donald Trump has set clear limits on billionaire Elon Musk’s influence in federal governance, stating that Musk does not have the authority to fire government employees or override Cabinet decisions.

Republican Senator Rick Scott reinforced Trump’s stance, saying, “Elon Musk does not have the power to fire people. The President leads, and agency heads manage their departments.” His remarks come after reports of tensions within the administration regarding Musk’s role in staffing and policy decisions.

During a recent Cabinet meeting, Trump addressed concerns over Musk’s influence, clarifying that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) only serves an advisory role and does not have executive powers.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick acknowledged Musk’s contributions, calling him a “partner” in government reforms. “He’s your partner in technology, thought, and execution,” Lutnick said, adding that Trump’s administration values Musk’s expertise but retains final decision-making authority.

Musk has been advocating for sweeping cuts in government spending, including eliminating various agencies, which has sparked concerns among federal employees. Despite the controversies, senior officials have expressed willingness to collaborate with Musk in restructuring government operations.

Trump’s directive aims to balance Musk’s role as an advisor while ensuring that policy and staffing decisions remain under the jurisdiction of Cabinet officials.
