Kadaba, Jun 22: The tragic murder-suicide in Kaje of Alankar village, which came to light on Saturday afternoon, has left a two-year-old toddler, Dhruvi, orphaned. The child's father, Dinesh Poojary, originally from Bajagoli, brutally murdered his wife Sangeetha before ending his own life. The toddler is currently under the care of her maternal grandmother.
The couple had been operating a hotel business in Alankar town for the past year. This unprecedented incident has sent shockwaves through the history of Alankar, with local residents frequently discussing the tragic fate and future of the young child.
Although information about the couple's death surfaced by Saturday afternoon, the arrival of Dinesh's relatives from Bajagoli was delayed. Consequently, the police had to conduct the spot inquest late into the night. After the procedures concluded around 11:30 pm, the bodies were shifted to a hospital in Derlakatte.
Following the completion of the post-mortem by 2:30 pm on Sunday, the bodies were handed over to the relatives. According to family sources, fulfilling the request of the deceased woman's family, the couple's final rites were performed together at Sangeetha's maternal home in Siddakatte.
The sudden loss of her parents has severely impacted the two-year-old breastfed toddler. Deprived of her mother's warmth and care since Saturday, the child has been crying inconsolably, repeatedly approaching her grandmother to ask for her mother.
In a deeply heart-wrenching scene while the bodies were kept at the house, the innocent toddler, in her broken words, stubbornly asked to go to her parents, believing they were merely asleep. Sangeetha's family sources stated that future decisions regarding the child's upbringing and legal care will be taken after thorough familial discussions.
Sangeetha's cousin sister, Sumalatha, shed light on the troubled marriage, revealing that Sangeetha had endured domestic abuse from her husband for 13 years.
"She was not a woman who would end her life or leave her husband. She was incredibly strong-willed. She always maintained that no matter how difficult things got, she would stay with her husband, citing that no one in our family had ever abandoned their spouses. Dinesh murdered her; she simply could not escape from him. She had moved to this town placing her complete trust in him," a tearful Sumalatha told the media.
