Lucknow, Mar 12: Health experts have raised concerns over the growing impact of poor lifestyle habits on kidney health, emphasizing the need for early detection and preventive care.
Speaking at a kidney health awareness programme at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Tuesday, Prof Vishwajeet Singh, Head of Nephrology, stressed that many patients reach hospitals in critical stages, leaving dialysis and transplants as the only life-saving options.

KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand inaugurated the event and conducted an awareness session at the OPD, urging people to avoid smoking, alcohol, and self-medication with painkillers, as these significantly increase the risk of kidney failure.
She emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy weight, controlling blood pressure, and managing diabetes through regular check-ups to prevent kidney-related ailments.
The event also focused on nutrition and fitness, with participants receiving fruits and water bottles as part of the initiative. Among the key contributors were Dr Medhavi Gautam, Dr Virendra Atam, Dr SK Sonkar, Dr Vishal, Dr Durgesh, Dr Gulab, Dr KK Singh, and the Radio Goonj team.
