Amrithsar, Mar 15: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday criticized the BJP-led Union government, alleging that the ongoing delimitation process is being manipulated to suppress political opposition. Speaking to the media after flagging off a batch of 72 teachers to Finland, Mann questioned the intent behind the exercise, calling it undemocratic and strategically designed to favor the ruling party.
He accused the BJP of reducing electoral seats in states where it is weak while increasing them in regions where its influence is growing. Asserting that such tactics threaten democracy, Mann called upon like-minded parties to unite against what he described as political repression by the Centre.
Addressing concerns over security in Punjab, the Chief Minister stated that various anti-Punjab forces have been attempting to destabilize the state's peace. However, he reassured that the Punjab Police, equipped with modern investigation tools and technology, has successfully thwarted such threats. He expressed confidence that the police force would continue to uphold its duty to safeguard national integrity.
Mann also linked the recent grenade attack in Amritsar to disruptive elements seeking to derail Punjab’s progress and prosperity. He emphasized that his government remains committed to preventing such conspiracies and ensuring law and order in the state.
Highlighting Punjab’s long-standing battle against cross-border terrorism and drug smuggling, Mann pointed out the frequent use of drones to transport narcotics and weapons from across the border. However, he noted that the government’s anti-drug initiative, Yudh Nasheyan Virudh, has significantly curbed smuggling activities, bringing a sense of pride and progress in the fight against organized crime.
