Karan Johar, Kartik Aaryan patch up with rap battle at IIFA

Mumbai, Mar 17: The grand IIFA stage this year not only delivered top-tier entertainment but also became a platform for mending broken ties and embracing new collaborations.

Bollywood’s ace filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Kartik Aaryan, who were once at loggerheads, looked far more at ease as they engaged in a friendly rap battle. While they took playful digs at each other, their camaraderie on stage suggested that the past was firmly behind them. And after all, KJo is no stranger to roasting!

A promo from the IIFA awards, held in Jaipur, showcased the two squaring off in a rap battle. Though the monotonous beat and ridiculous lyrical flow left much to be desired, the content itself made up for it. Both KJo and Kartik took potshots at each other’s box office disasters—films that stemmed from ambition but failed to hit the mark.

If KJo’s Kalank remains a dark blot in his filmography, Kartik’s Shehzada, a remake of Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, didn’t do him any favors either. The film’s underwhelming performance cost Kartik a chance to solidify his standing as Bollywood’s ‘Crown Prince.’ While the battle got heated in the middle, it ended on a lighter note, steering focus toward their upcoming collaboration, Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri.

Announced in December last year, the film has been making headlines as it marks the first collaboration between Karan Johar and Kartik Aaryan after their much-publicized fallout. Their rift over Dostana 2 had been the talk of the industry, but time and professional maturity seem to have brought them back together. Now, with bygones being bygones, the two are all set to create cinematic magic with their new venture.
