Bengaluru, Mar 21: The Karnataka Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) board exams commenced on Friday, with approximately 8.96 lac students appearing across 15,881 examination centres state-wide.

The Karnataka Assembly conveyed its best wishes to students and urged parents to avoid exerting undue pressure, emphasizing the importance of emotional support during this crucial period.

Addressing the Assembly, speaker UT Khader said, "Today marks the beginning of a significant academic milestone for students appearing for the SSLC exams. We extend our heartfelt wishes to all students and encourage them to write their exams with confidence. Hard work and dedication, coupled with the support of parents and teachers, will undoubtedly lead them to success."

The house also raised concerns over the circulation of fake question papers on social media. Speaker Khader pointed out that misleading messages claiming access to leaked papers were being circulated via online platforms, luring students into fraudulent schemes. He urged education minister Madhu Bangarappa to take immediate action against such malpractices.

In response, minister Bangarappa assured that strict monitoring was in place. He stated, "Forwarding such messages is a serious offence. We have taken necessary precautions to ensure the exams are conducted smoothly. I personally interacted with students during the Class 12 exams to boost their confidence, and similar efforts will be made for SSLC students."

Leader of the opposition R Ashoka also appealed to parents, highlighting the stress students face during board exams. He emphasized, "Students should not be burdened with unrealistic expectations. Even a slight dip in grades can cause distress. Parents must be supportive and help them stay positive."

Chief minister Siddaramaiah reaffirmed the government's commitment to facilitating a smooth examination process. He announced that students appearing for SSLC exams would be allowed free travel on RTC buses. Addressing concerns regarding grace marks, he clarified, "Last year, I took a firm stance against awarding grace marks, as students' performance should reflect their actual abilities. While grace marks were given during the COVID-19 pandemic, this year, exams will be conducted without such provisions."

With the Karnataka Assembly's backing and various initiatives in place, students have been encouraged to approach their exams with confidence, free from undue stress.
