Pernem man booked for alleged bottle attack, attempt to murder

Mapusa, Aug 23: Pernem police have booked a Poroscodem resident for allegedly attempting to murder a 30-year-old man during an assault arising from an old enmity on August 19.

According to police, Gitesh Korgaonkar allegedly abused Shubham Arondekar, a resident of Satarda in Sawantwadi, near a bar and restaurant in Poroscodem.

The confrontation allegedly escalated when Korgaonkar smashed a beer bottle on Arondekar's head and then stabbed him in the neck with a shard of the broken bottle.

Police said Arondekar suffered severe bleeding injuries and was also allegedly threatened with death.

Based on a complaint filed on August 20 by Arondekar's brother, Atmaram Arondekar, 33, Pernem police registered a case against Korgaonkar under Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Sub-Inspector Tukaram Chodankar is investigating the case.
