Nagpur, Mar 22: Authorities arrested 14 more individuals, including 10 juveniles, in connection with the recent violence in Nagpur, Maharashtra, raising the total number of arrests to 105.

The unrest erupted on March 17 after rumours spread that a sheet bearing a Quranic verse was allegedly burned during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) protest demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The incident triggered stone-pelting and arson across multiple areas in the city.

Nagpur police commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singhal confirmed the arrests and announced the registration of three additional FIRs related to the violence. He stated that a high-level review meeting would determine further relaxation of the curfew.

Following an assessment meeting at police Bhawan, civil lines, commissioner Singhal announced that curfew was partially lifted in Nandanvan and Kapil Nagar police station limits from 2 pm on March 20. In Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, and Imambada, restrictions were relaxed for two hours (2 pm to 4 pm) to allow residents to purchase essential supplies.
The violence led to injuries among 33 police personnel, including three officers of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) rank.

A case of treason has been registered against the primary accused, Faheem Khan.

Meanwhile, a local court in Nagpur remanded 17 arrested individuals to police custody until March 22, citing the seriousness of the charges and strong evidence against them.
