Bantwal, Mar 25: A fire broke out on the hill of Shreeramachandrapura Math in Mani Peraje, Bantwal taluk, destroying around 1,000 Kokum saplings that were planted three years ago.

Locals attempted to douse the flames by pouring water, but their efforts were in vain.

Due to the intense heat, the fire spread rapidly across the hill. Later, Bantwal fire service personnel arrived at the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control.

Around 50 fruit-bearing saplings were completely burnt in the fire. Fortunately, nearby houses and an Airtel tower remained unharmed.
