Mumbai, Mar 26: The Maharashtra government is set to introduce an amendment to bring milk adulteration under the stringent Maharashtra Control of organised Crime Act (MCOCA), Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday.
Addressing reporters, Fadnavis stated that milk adulteration poses a serious health risk and is often carried out by organized syndicates. To curb this menace, the government plans to classify such offenses under MCOCA, ensuring stricter punishment and faster legal action.

Currently, cases of milk adulteration are dealt with under food safety laws, which often result in lenient penalties. The proposed amendment aims to impose harsher consequences on offenders, treating large-scale adulteration as a serious crime.
The move comes amid rising concerns over food safety in the state, with authorities intensifying efforts to crack down on adulteration rackets. The government is expected to table the amendment in the upcoming legislative session.
