Udupi, Mar 27: Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K Vidyakumari directed officials to expedite the land acquisition process for identified industrial areas in the district and facilitate the establishment of new industries.

She was speaking while presiding over the Industrial Spandana Committee meeting, the District-Level Single Window Committee meeting, and the Export Promotion Committee meeting at the DC’s office in Rajathadri, Manipal.

Lands have already been identified in various taluks for the construction of new industrial areas. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) should acquire these lands and provide essential infrastructure such as electricity, roads, and drainage systems, ensuring the establishment of new industries and employment opportunities for the people, she stated.

For the construction of a new industrial area, 77.03 acres of private land have already been fully compensated and acquired in Kerebetu village (31.28 acres) and Shivapura village (45.75 acres) of Hebri taluk. However, approval for 36.56 acres of government land is still pending. Officials from the Forest Department must verify whether this land falls under the eco-sensitive zone, she added.

At the Shivalli Industrial Area, unauthorized RMC (Ready-Mix Concrete) activities are being conducted without necessary permissions or documentation. She instructed that notices be issued to the concerned owners and emphasized that local employment opportunities should be provided as per the Dr Sarojini Mahishi report.

For the Belapu Industrial Area, she directed that the minor land acquisition process required for the expansion of the access road should be completed quickly to facilitate road construction.

She also mandated that every industrial unit in Miyaru Industrial Area must implement rainwater harvesting to address local water scarcity.

The district currently has 22 export-oriented units, and efforts should be made to encourage and increase foreign exports, she said.

The meeting was attended by joint director of the department of industries Nagraj V Nayak, KIADB development officer Srinivasamurthy, district president of the Small-Scale Industries Association Harish Kunder, deputy director of the District Industries Centre Seetharam Shetty, district skill development officer Arun B, assistant general manager of Shivamogga KSSIDC Nagabharana K P, small-scale industrial entrepreneurs, and other departmental officials.
