Bantwal: Man held for alleged drug peddling, goods worth Rs 1.93 lac seized

Bantwal, Oct 10: Police arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly attempting to sell narcotic substances on the service road near the Brahmarakootlu toll gate in Kallige village. The police seized narcotic substances and other items collectively worth Rs 1.93 lac.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ashraf alias Mohammed Ashraf (48), a native of Ammemar in Pudu village, who is currently residing at T K Flat in Farangipete.

Acting on credible information, a police team led by police inspector Anantha Padmanabha conducted a raid at the spot. Ashraf allegedly attempted to flee upon seeing the police, but the team detained him and conducted a search.

The police found four packets containing white powder in his trouser pocket and another five packets beneath the seat of his scooter. A preliminary examination raised suspicion that the substance was a narcotic drug of the amphetamine/methamphetamine type.

The police seized two mobile phones, Rs 1,870 in cash, a debit card, eight empty zip-lock covers, a weighing machine and a scooter, along with the suspected narcotic substance. The total value of the seized items was estimated at Rs 1.93 lac.
