Mangaluru, Mar 27: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, along with Beltangady MLA Harish Poonja, met union minister for tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi and submitted a request to develop several prominent temples in the district under the central government's 'PRASAD' scheme.

During the meeting, the MP emphasized the need for the inclusion of Puttur Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Shishila Sri Shishileshwara Temple, and several other significant temples in Dakshina Kannada in the scheme. He urged the minister to take necessary steps to enhance these temples and attract more pilgrims and tourists.

The leaders specifically requested the development of Sri Nandikeshwara Temple (Nandibetta Gardadi), Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple (Kolli), Sri Shishileshwara Temple (Shishila), Sri Sahasralingeshwara Temple (Uppinangady), and Sri Thodikana Mallikarjuna Temple (Sullia) under the PRASAD scheme.

Dakshina Kannada district is a hub of religious sites, drawing pilgrims not only from Karnataka but also from across the country and abroad. Many temples in the region qualify for development under the PRASAD scheme. Considering this, Capt Chowta urged the Union minister to prioritize these temples, particularly Sri Sahasralingeshwara Temple, and allocate the necessary funds from the tourism ministry to enhance their appeal and accessibility.
