Mangaluru, Mar 29: MLC Ivan D’Souza announced that the upgradation of sewage treatment plants (STP) at Pachanady and Bajal will be undertaken at a cost of Rs 45 crore.

During the recently concluded 155th session, D’Souza raised 55 questions, including concerns about the sewage treatment plant. Additionally, a wet well will be constructed in Attavar at a cost of Rs 45 crore and another in Kandathpalli for Rs 4 crore. The proposal for an electric crematorium has also been approved for Mangaluru’s Nandigudde and Mysuru, each costing Rs 4 crore.

In the upcoming cabinet meeting, Rs 195 crore is expected to be approved for the construction of staff quarters and other infrastructure at the new prison in Bantwal Balepuni. The relocation of Mangaluru district jail to Bantwal is progressing and is expected to be completed within three months. Home minister G Parameshwar has agreed to inspect both jails, as the current Mangaluru district jail is overcrowded with 331 inmates.

Addressing concerns about cattle theft, D’Souza urged citizens not to take the law into their own hands and emphasized that police should act swiftly against illegal activities.
