GT outclass MI as Krishna, Siraj Shine in bowling masterclass

Ahmedabad, Mar 30: Prasidh Krishna's crafty slower balls and Mohammed Siraj's scrambled seam brilliance powered Gujarat Titans to a commanding 36-run victory over Mumbai Indians in Match 9 of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.

Opener B Sai Sudharsan continued his fine form, smashing 63 to propel GT to a challenging 196/8. In reply, MI struggled to find momentum on a two-paced track, managing only 160/6 despite a fighting 48 from Suryakumar Yadav.

GT’s bowlers executed their plans with precision. Krishna (2-18) and Siraj (2-34) dismantled MI’s top order, while Kagiso Rabada and R Sai Kishore chipped in with a wicket each. Such was GT’s dominance that Rashid Khan bowled just two overs.

Chasing 197, MI started positively, with Rohit Sharma stroking two early boundaries. However, Siraj struck back, sneaking one through the gate to bowl Rohit for eight. He then dismissed Ryan Rickleton (6) in similar fashion.

Tilak Varma (39) and Suryakumar tried to steady the innings, but Krishna’s clever variations saw Tilak mistime a lofted shot to long-on. Robin Minz failed as an impact substitute, falling cheaply to Kishore.

Suryakumar, after taking a nasty blow to the helmet from Krishna, perished attempting a big hit against the tall pacer. Hardik Pandya endured a painful 17-ball stay for just 11 before Rabada got rid of him. Late fireworks from Naman Dhir and Mitchell Santner were not enough, as MI slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat against GT in Ahmedabad.

Brief scores:

Gujarat Titans 196/8 in 20 overs (B Sai Sudharsan 63, Jos Buttler 39; Hardik Pandya 2-29)

Mumbai Indians 160/6 in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 48, Tilak Varma 39; Prasidh Krishna 2-18, Mohammed Siraj 2-34)

GT won by 36 runs.
