Mangaluru, Apr 2: In a remarkable display of resilience and leadership, the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has surpassed the previous financial year’s cargo throughput figures for 2024-25, despite facing significant operational challenges. This milestone underscores the dynamic leadership and relentless efforts of the visionary chairman, who, along with the dedicated officers and employees of NMPA, has steered the Port towards record-breaking growth.
One of the major hurdles encountered this year was the 66-day delay in dredging operations due to contractor lapses, compounded by severe road connectivity issues. The closure of Sampaje and Shiradi Ghats for an extended period disrupted logistics, resulting in an estimated loss of 5 million metric tons of cargo. Despite these setbacks, the port’s leadership remained undeterred, driving forward with unwavering determination, intelligence, and strategic foresight.

The achievement is even more historic as it coincides with the golden jubilee year of New Mangalore Port, a key player in India’s maritime economy. The tremendous growth in cargo and revenue is a testament to the port’s commitment to national economic progress, reinforcing its role as a vital trade gateway.
Under the inspiring leadership of chairman Dr Venkata Ramana Akkaraju, New Mangalore Port Authority continues to set new benchmarks in operational excellence, proving that vision, dedication, and hard work can overcome even the most formidable challenges.
The Indian National Port & Dock Workers Federation (INTUC) extended its heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the chairman, officers, and employees for their unwavering commitment to the port’s progress. Their dedication and perseverance have not only strengthened the port’s standing but also contributed significantly to the nation’s economic growth.
