Pant, Digvesh Penalised for code breaches after LSG’s thrilling win over MI

Lucknow, Apr 5: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant and young pacer Digvesh Singh have both been penalised for separate infractions of the IPL Code of Conduct following their side’s nail-biting 12-run victory against Mumbai Indians on Friday night at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

In an official statement, the IPL confirmed that Pant was fined Rs 12 lac for maintaining a slow over-rate in Match 16 of IPL 2025. This marks LSG’s first such offence this season under Article 2.22 of the Code, which requires teams to complete their overs within the allotted time. As captain, Pant was held accountable for the lapse.

Meanwhile, LSG’s rising fast bowler Digvesh Singh, who has caught attention with his aggressive spells this season, was fined 50 percent of his match fees for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5. The penalty came after Singh was found using inappropriate language following the dismissal of a Mumbai batsman. It was his second offence this season, adding another demerit point to his record – taking his tally to three.

According to IPL regulations, Level 1 offences fall under the Match Referee’s purview, and the decision taken is final and binding.

Despite these disciplinary setbacks, LSG had reasons to celebrate. Fifties from Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh powered the team to a competitive total. In response, Mumbai Indians staged a strong comeback but were halted by disciplined bowling performances.

Digvesh Singh, Shardul Thakur, and Avesh Khan delivered under pressure in the death overs, each claiming a crucial wicket to hand Lucknow their first home win of the season.

The team now looks to carry forward the momentum, even as they tighten discipline both on and off the field.
