Karan Patel opens up on film setback and why 'Bigg Boss' is not for him

Mumbai, Apr 8: Popular television actor Karan Patel, best known for his roles in hit shows like Kasturi and Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, has candidly shared his views on the failure of his 2023 film Darran Chhoo and why the controversial reality show Bigg Boss is not his cup of tea.

In a recent podcast hosted by Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa, Karan made it clear that Bigg Boss, hosted by Salman Khan, is not a platform he would ever consider. "Bigg Boss is not meant for me. I won't be able to do it. You can’t expect someone to remain calm and composed for three months straight. If someone like Hiten Tejwani, known for his calm nature, could lose his cool inside, then I surely can’t manage," Karan remarked.

He further added that the current format of the show does not appeal to him. "The charm is lost. Earlier, it was about celebrities and their lives. Now, they bring in people from all walks of life. I don’t want to see my vegetable vendor inside the Bigg Boss house. Also, I can't tolerate disrespectful behavior towards women, which the show seems to thrive on these days," he said.

Addressing the underwhelming performance of his film Darran Chhoo, which was directed by Bharat Ratan and produced by his mother Minoo Patel and wife Ankita Bhargava Patel, Karan admitted that poor timing played a key role. “We were new to film production and unfortunately chose the wrong window for release. Salaar hit theatres just a week later, followed by Jawan. Moreover, it was the 50-year celebration of Indian cinema, so iconic classics were re-released the same day. Our film simply got lost in the noise,” he explained.

Karan also weighed in on the changing landscape of the OTT industry. Expressing his concern, he said, "OTT has become cluttered. I’m not receiving good roles, and honestly, the space seems overrun by unnecessary content. A lot of what’s being shown now feels more like soft porn. It’s become a trend to include intimate scenes even when they don’t serve the story.”

The actor’s unfiltered take offers insight into the challenges faced by artists in the changing dynamics of the entertainment industry—both on and off the screen.
