Veronica Cornelio slams PM Modi over fuel price hike; calls out BJP’s hypocrisy

Media Release

Udupi, Apr 8: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesperson Veronica Cornelio has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hiking the prices of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas. She stated that this move has effectively undermined the BJP state leaders' protest campaign, ironically named the "Janakrosha Yatre".

Veronica Cornelio questioned the BJP leaders who blame the Congress-led state government for price rise, asking if they had any explanation for the central government’s continuous increase in fuel and gas prices. "Despite a drop in international crude oil prices, the central government has been steadily increasing the prices of petroleum products. The BJP leadership must explain this to the people of the state," she demanded.

She further accused Prime Minister Modi of delivering a "Modi Ki Guarantee" to the people—not through welfare, but through fuel and gas price hikes. Cornelio argued that the rising prices of rice, pulses, fish, meat, vegetables, and even hotel food were directly linked to the central government’s anti-people policies concerning petroleum and gas pricing.

Taking a strong jab at the BJP, she said that if the party truly cared about public welfare, its leaders should exert pressure on the central government to reduce prices instead of blaming the state government. "If not, the day is not far when the people of this state will teach a fitting lesson to the BJP," she concluded in her statement.
