Thane, Apr 8: A 20-year-old man has been apprehended by police in Thane, Maharashtra, following the horrific crime of allegedly kidnapping, raping, and murdering a 10-year-old girl. The accused is said to have slit the child's throat before throwing her body from the bathroom window of his residence.
The gruesome incident unfolded on the night of April 7. Police reports indicate that the accused lured the young victim, who lived in a nearby building, to his sixth-floor apartment in Samrat Nagar, Thane, by offering her toys. Inside his home, he allegedly raped her and subsequently slit her throat with a sharp weapon.

Following the heinous act, the accused reportedly carried the girl's body to his bathroom and threw it out of an open window. A thorough investigation by the police, which involved checking every flat in the building, led them to the open bathroom window in the man's residence from where the body was allegedly thrown.
The Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell received a report of the incident at 11:48 pm on Monday, according to its chief, Yasin Tadvi.
Initially, police registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the accused, who resides in the Thakurpada area of Mumbra.
The post-mortem examination conducted on the minor girl confirmed the horrific details of the crime, revealing that she was raped and her throat was slit with a sharp weapon, as stated by police officials.
Based on the autopsy findings, additional BNS sections, including 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape), 376(2) (rape of a child), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender), have been added to the charges against the accused.
According to Yasin Tadvi, the victim, who was not a resident of the building, was discovered lying in a vertical duct within the structure under unclear circumstances. Women in the vicinity reported hearing a loud thud, which prompted them to alert the police.
Emergency services, including personnel from the Mumbra police station, fire brigade teams, the regional disaster management cell, and a private ambulance, swiftly responded to the scene and initiated a rescue operation. Despite the challenging nature of the narrow shaft, fire brigade officials successfully retrieved the child. She was immediately transported to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where doctors tragically declared her brought dead.
