Puttur, Apr 10: An attempted theft at a private ATM centre in Kalleri, a village near Uppinangady in Karaya, was foiled after miscreants broke into the premises and tried to damage property. A complaint regarding the incident has been lodged with the Uppinangady police.

The ATM, operated by a private company named India One, is located in the building of the Thanneerupanta Agricultural Credit Cooperative Society in Kalleri. The miscreants reportedly tried to dismantle the CCTV cameras inside the centre and attempted to open the ATM machine.

The India One call centre received an alert suggesting suspicious activity at the Kalleri ATM, following which a team rushed to the location and discovered evidence of an attempted theft. Based on a complaint filed by Prashanth D’Costa, Uppinangady police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter.

The private ATM centre is equipped with advanced security systems, including constant monitoring of movements at all its centres. Despite efforts by the intruders to access the machine, they failed to open the cash compartment due to the OTP-based security mechanism in place.

A similar theft attempt had taken place some time ago at an ATM in Tekkar. The recurrence of such incidents, this time in Kalleri, has prompted the police to take the matter seriously and intensify the investigation.
